Furniture Upcycle Competition

Contest Rules

• Contest Artists may request a piece of ArtisTree’s used furniture supply, as long as supplies last, or may supply their own used furniture to upcycle. In the spirit of sustainability, we discourage Artists from buying any furniture new. All artists are responsible for sourcing the supplies for their creations. 

• Furniture designs must be free of hate symbols, hate speech, expletives, and references to drugs or alcohol. Please reference our universal terms and conditions for further information and the Anti-defamation League’s reference for hate speech and symbols for further information. If Artists are unsure if any part of their design will be a problem, they are encouraged to check with ArtisTree Cafe. 

• By submitting entries, participants affirm that their submissions do not violate any trademarks or copyrights held by third parties. Participants are solely responsible for ensuring that their entries are original works or appropriately licensed, and they indemnify, hold harmless, and agree to defend ArtisTree Cafe from any claims or legal actions arising from copyright or trademark violations in their submissions. 

• All completed furniture must be physically returned to ArtisTree Cafe by 5:00 PM on August 25, 2023. Earlier drop-off times may also be arranged if participants wish to drop off before August 25th. Participants will be required to pre-arrange their drop-off time upon furniture pick up or contest entry (if the participant is not using ArtisTree furniture.) Participants are welcome to change their drop-off time once within the contest period. To do so, call or text Peyton at (320) 357-4143, and an earlier drop-off time will be coordinated. 

• All participants must be able to transport their furniture to and from the ArtisTree Cafe.  Most furniture in our collection can fit in a van, and some can fit in the backseat of a sedan.

• Furniture must be returned in usable condition for Cafe seating - that means safe, dry, and free of any materials that are likely to cause discomfort or injury to patrons or that may cause damage or stains to clothing or accessories worn by patrons. (for example, a seat back that is decorated with large, chunky embellishments as this is uncomfortable to sit on and could tear or damage clothing.) 

• Groups are more than welcome to work together on a piece of furniture (such as a group of friends, a book club, or a Boy/girl scouts troop.) If participants or participants group wish to leave a signature, logo or other form of identification on the piece of furniture, please clear the design, location, and size with the ArtisTree Cafe before placing the signature. 

• Any registered participant who returns a usable piece of seating that has been thoughtfully decorated or upcycled (whether it was their own or a piece from ArtisTree) will receive a $20 gift card to ArtisTree Cafe. Groups will receive one $20 gift card per group, not per member.  All pieces will be juried by our Artistic Advisory Board, and one winner will be chosen. The winner will receive a $100 gift card to ArtisTree. A small recognition ceremony will be held during ArtisTree’s grand opening celebration weekend currently tentatively scheduled for the 24th of September.
